Kiki van Eijk

Kiki van Eijk as born in 1978 and graduated Cum Laude in 2000 from Design Accademy Eindhoven. Since 2001 she is working in the design field. Kiki mixes and balances all the process, starting with the concept, material , structure and technique with a creative surprising design. She likes to merge old with new techniques. When she is at the fabric she is surprised by manufacturers and craftsman that make her designs.

“ I respect the old iconography and quality which I reshape with a strong personal touch My personal goal in design is to make products that are extremely special which withstand time because of their autonomous, personal and exclusive qualities”

Here in this video is represented the Glasstress project, 2011.Venice Projects produces Glasstress, as a travelling exhibition spreading the knowledge of contemporary art in glass worldwide.

Kiki is part of the designers niche in the Venice Projects. Venice Projects promotes internationally recognized contemporary artists who have been in the Venice Biennale, and  provides to them the opportunity to express their creativity in a new medium, glass. Venice Projects develops educational opportunities for dialogue and experimentation in the use of glass in contemporary art.

Nowdays, Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk are the latest real-life couple to join forces in the studio for Bernhardt Design. Leading the new generation of Dutch designers, much of Kiki’s and Joost’s work is based on the traditions of the workshop and a respect of craft.

They stand out of the crowd because they put so much personality and mastery into their work, and the objects are unique and exceptionally well crafted. Both are graduates of Design Academy Eindhoven and their personal studio in Strijp became the inspiration and starting point for their aptly titled collection “Workshop.” They have worked for brands like MOOOI, Swarovski, Studio Li Edelkoort Paris and Dutch Design Week.
