Carwan Gallery was founded in 2010 by the architects Pascale Wakim and Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte, and it was the first pop-up gallery in the Middle East. Based in Beirut, Carwan is the first gallery to promote emerging contemporary design in the Middle East. This gallery exhibits limited-edition of art and design pieces from all over the worlds. The exhibitions features the work of international cutting-edge designers of unique contemporary objects such as limited-edition furniture, lighting, and objets d’art.
Carwan Gallery provides creative and design-centered consultancy and assistance to collectors, architects, and interior designers. They are also specialized in offering the access to a group of top-level craftsmen from the whole Middle East to assist with production, adaptation, and integration of object, in order to find an exclusive and unique contemporary solution with an exceptional handmade character.
In Design Miami/ Base fair, Carwan Gallery is pleased to present the new exclusive “Landscapes” series in collaboration with architect and designer India Mahdavi and produced by Iznik Foundation in Bursa, Turkey.
Landscapes is a collection of limited-edition tables, each crafted by hand and suitable for indoor and outdoor use, exploring Middle Eastern high quality craft techniques and applying them into a contemporary content, inspired by a journey across Beirut, Paris and Iznik.
The starting point for the collection was the use of Ottoman-style quartz and the exploration of a new approach in the construction of a monumental table that surprises the color and reflections senses. The Iznik Foundation is famous for using the heritage of old Ottoman tradition, offered the perfect sponsor. The material used for the benefit is composed of 85% pure quartz powder, producing the reflective shine of the product.
India Mahdavi spent her childhood in eleven different countries and her eclectic, colorful interiors reflect her myriad influences and inspirations. She is known for constructing spaces startling and super creative. The diversity of her international projects which explore the fields of architecture and scenography, interior, furniture and objects. India Mahdavi’s creations are immediately recognizable by the association of sensuality and elegance, a perfect balance between masculine and feminine.
