London, during the month of September, was the scene of the most original, exciting and desired event in the design world. Between 14 and 23 September, “The London Design Festival” received the most prestigious names in the world of the arts and of course, the true and faithful design lovers.
The highlights as well as the surprises were plenty and our memories are of equal numbers. As such, we present the best of these real design events so you can remember it for many years to come.
Among the huge number of events occurring during these 10 days, we selected a TOP 5: Tent London, 100% Design, Design Junction, Decorex and Super Brands London. Yes, indeed the selection between them was not easy, but we think this TOP 5 is fair. The reason?
Tent London, provided more than renowned brands: the space itself was filled with surprises and entertainment. You might have heard about Pitfield London an amazing pop-up bar and café which offered a meeting place and gathering point to socialize or work. If you want to blame someone for this space, blame the interior design duo Shaun Clarkson and textile designer Paul Brewster. Its unique style provided unique sensations.
We also point out the KamKam, winner of the Red Hot, which showed a Korean design fun and imagine enough to take us back to a childhood. With them, we were kids and dreaming again.
100% Design? Highlights? We now highlight the fantastic “moving home” as some call it. This is the project of the British entrepreneur and inventor Simon Woodroofe. This project is not only totally innovative and original, but also perfect for the economic times that we are in. Social criticism hand in hand with design? Who knows …
We also highlight the original Portuguese brand of lamps, Delightfull. A brand which explores the vintage years of the 40’s and 60’s and brings to your home the names of singers of that time. Design that makes our life more relaxed and fun.
Design Junction had the presence of some giants of the design world as Deezen, Bocci, Cappellini, Artek and sublime Baccarat. Baccarat presented an exciting new collection, Vase-O-Rama in collaboration with ECAL and designers such as Philippe Starck and Patricia Urquiola.
If we talk about design, we talk about constant learning and improvement. Being a designer is to be creative, innovative, a student who seeks to learn and improve constantly. Decorex is the place for such people, with great workshops to awaken their creativity and pass on knowledge.
We mentioned the irreverent Jaime Hayon who launches the Sé Collection, which adds his unique touch to mark the Se of Pavlo Schlakteff. The result is simply divine, causing admiration in public. The Diesel and Foscarini collection “Successfull Living from Diesel and Foscarini” had a big impact too. In this collection, lamps speak a multitude of languages, tell different stories and provide an unique way of style: the Diesel lifestyle.
The London Design Festival again surprised with innovation and love. We have to wait for the next edition but until then, keep these highlights.
