CONTEMPORARY DESIGN TREND EDITIONS
Ideas Lab in Shanghai, is a fusion of styles, another unique project by architect-designer Li Xiang, founder of X+Living. The design theme lays on the fusion of the Industrial Age and the Age of Technology with a some ornate gothic visual elements added on for visual interest.
The purpose of the space was to create a atmosphere where the company’s researchers, office staff and retail customers could connect with each other and develop and experience information technology of the future.
The 1,100 square-metre completely reconfigured space includes retail, research and office space for the enormous Powerlong Group whose business are for example, real estate, hospitality, tourism, culture, arts, industry and information.
Inspired by the Industrial Age the designers used the typical visual and material seen on factory environments like elevated metal walkways, massive tanks, utility pipes.
The walkways function as walkways and staircases, the tanks become spaces for various technology experiences and experiments for customers, and the piping hides air conditioning, electrical wires and cables.
With a space layout like this, the staff is working on the platforms in the air while consumers are downstairs experiencing commercial brought by this fusion of the new technology and industrial. The space interaction between the two store space makes them acknowledge the existence of each other and the space more interesting.
