Labyrinth playground is a winner project, in Bangsaen Beach, young architects Supermachine Studio have reinterpreted the traditional playground into a snaky red vertical labyrinth. This design was baptized as the 10 Cal Tower after the average amount of calories burned from walking around it. It consists of a red concrete stair which twists and turns to form a sculptural piece of architecture which rises 8.5 meters high off the ground. But if you look to the pictures the structure is more than a simple playground, it has become a place for community engagement to blossom.
Adults and children are flocking to this red cubic stair. They interact and play on it together, running around its multiple levels. At the top, you reach a viewpoint which great views of the seaside town and beach. At the ground floor, the cantilevers provide shading for families to enjoy a picnic or some rest from the tropical sun.
As you can see by the pictures this simple structure can be both sculptural and a center for people to gather around: a symbol for an entire community and town which is excitingly new but equally very comfortable in its context.
The Supermachine Studio With this project, was named the winner of the prestigious Architectural Review’s 2015 Emerging Architecture Awards (2015 AR_EA) in late November 2015.
