Shirin Abedinirad is a visual artist based between Florence and Tehran. First, she began her artistic activities with painting and later the graphic design cames to the life of Shirin, but not in compliance with this, starts to study fashion design at Dr. Shariaty University in Tehran, when she focused on conceptual art and the the influence of this in fashion design.
In parallel with heruniversity studies, works as a model being the face of United Colors of Benetton F/W International Campaign in 2010 but with that opportunity came other more bigger: has a part of the campaign, she was invited to work with Benetton’s research center, Fabrica, in Treviso, Italy.
She never stop to explore and the prove of that is that are her performance art pieces around Iran, encountering issues of gender, sexuality, and human compassion, who has also put on public shows in Spain, Turkey and India. Since 2012, Shirin has been making video art, exploring the notion of self and identity with moving images. She studied under critically-acclaimed Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. In both her performance pieces and videos, she designs her own costumes, props, and sets.
Part of her explorations in conceptual art includes her most recent creation: ‘Mirrored Ziggurat‘ in Sydney, Australia.

Basically, Shirin places mirrors and projects how the sky touches the earth. “This projections” re placed while she is traveling aroundthe world, for example, on the steps of a staircase in Treviso, Italy, or in the middle of the Central.
Her latest installation explores the link between nature and human beings. The Tehran-based artist was inspired by the Tachara Palace in Persepolis, Persia, one of the first places where mirrors were used in architecture.
In a statement, the artist says: “For me, mirrors amplify this paradise, giving light; an important mystical concept in Persian Culture, and a medium creating an optical illusion”
In March 2014, Shirin was selected for a one-year scholarship with United Colors of Benetton’s Fabrica research center.
