Tié Chair

Tié Chair nominated for design of the year

Pinwu is a Chinese design studio that creates pieces for home with very interesting materials. This time and nominated for Design of the Year 2013 by London Design Museum, they conceived a paper chair – The Tié chair. This chair is the second paper chair made by the studio and it was inspired by Yuhang Aper Umbrellas.

The chair is made with just paper and glue, and it may be hard for you to understand this ia a strong structure, but the fact that the paper used is rice paper changes it all. The rice paper used is made in a small village near the studio, and it has bamboo fiber, so it doesn’t tear apart so easy. In fact this can be a very strong material.

All the structure uses this material except for the sit that is actually removable. This furniture piece describes a further step of how to turn a weightless material like paper into very strong piece. It only proves that with imagination you can do the most beautiful thing out of any material.
